As a network organization, Apeldoorn IT continuously responds to the potential of new technologies and other ways of organizing. In addition to the fact that this leads to all kinds of working relationships between Apeldoorn companies and government institutions, we organize knowledge sessions on a wide range of subjects, such as on 24 June last about blockchain.
On this day we welcomed Jolanda ter Maten and Jacques Vos. Jolanda is an (inter)national advisor and teacher for, among others, the ISO, EU and the Dutch Blockchain Coalition and focuses in particular on the impact of Blockchain on business and society. Jacques is a lawyer with a busy international portfolio and investigates the possible implementation of emerging technologies in law and writes articles for national and international magazines.
The shortcomings and solutions by Jolanda ter Maten
Blockchain: everyone is talking about it, but what is it really? And why could it have such a big impact on the way we execute transactions, collaborate and trust each other?
To answer this, Jolanda tells you to look for the reasons in the shortcomings of the current transaction systems. For example, you may wonder whether the intervention of intermediaries in transactions has added value, because administrative actions cause a waste of money. The question is also whether the privacy of the customer is sufficiently guaranteed and vulnerabilities in the systems are manageable.
Jolanda says that blockchain technology enables a different way of organizing and offers opportunities and possibilities for (better) service provision.
It offers transparency and the possibility to organize trust through integrated management. This means that everyone uses one source to which everyone contributes and of which everyone monitors and increases the quality.
The participants wanted to know how and in what period organizations can implement blockchain. Obviously, Jolanda cannot give an unambiguous answer to this, but she clearly shows that it is wise for companies and government agencies to study blockchain technology. Continuing on the old road is not an option. Major changes are coming to accelerate existing business processes, but this requires the right knowledge. Blockchain can help fight fraud and cyber crime, increase efficiency and improve services.
